Experiments in climate governance

06 March 2017, Climate Change, SYKE

Experimentation has been proposed as a key way in which governance drives sustainability transitions. This article seeks to bring greater coherence to the literature and practice of climate and sustainability governance experiments through a systematic review of articles published between 2009 and 2015. Based on the results a new typology of climate governance experiments is suggested in order to identify their salient features. These are niche creation, market creation, spatial development and societal problem solving.

"Experiments in climate governance – A systematic review of research on energy and built environment transitions" is a peer reviewed article, published in Journal of Cleaner Production (2017).
