23 February 2010, Soils, Forests and Agriculture, SYKE
The Joensuu Forestry Networking Week 2010 welcomes young scientists, professionals and stakeholders in forestry from across Europe to participate in a unique forum with the objective to improve participants' expertise and knowledge on forest-water interactions in Europe. A few places are still available, apply by 26 February. Joensuu Forestry Networking Week 2010: Forest-water interactions in Europe is held 24-28 May 2010 in Joensuu, Finland.
The Joensuu Forestry Networking Week 2010 discusses science and policy used in decision making concerning the role of forests when regulating the water cycle and the role of forest management, and its effects on the quantity and quality of water.

The topic “Forest-water interactions in Europe” is very timely, as water issues are high on the political agenda and of utmost importance to forest owners. The networking week will not only address the various aspects of water and forests (e.g. droughts in southern Europe and its impact on forest), but also the water use of forests and its cooling effects on the atmosphere. Other concerns are the water storing possibilities under forests, and the role of forest management in affecting the water cycle. Scientific aspects, as well as governance and practical aspects will be addressed in detail as well.
The networking week connects and increases the interaction between young and experienced professionals in forestry from different parts of Europe. Participants represent research, development, education, consultancy, business and industry as well as policy and decision making. They will be engaged in various activities including discussions, lectures, group work and excursions. Experienced keynote speakers will be available for participants’ questions and guidance during the networking week. Due to the agenda and working methods, the number of participants is limited to 30.
This event is organized in co-operation with the COST Action: Forest Management and the Water Cycle (FORMAN) jointly by the European Forest Institute (EFI), the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), University of Eastern Finland and North Karelian University of Applied Sciences. Finnish Environment Institute SYKE is one of the Finnish member organisations of EFI.
