POSITION:
Cemagref is a public research institute on water management and territories. We aim at producing new knowledge and technical innovations for decision makers and corporations to address basic questions raised by the society.
Within the "Hydrosystems and bioprocesses" Research Unit, and in relation to the Research Program BELCA ("biological and ecological responses to contamination of the aquatic environment,") the "ecotoxicology" group (2 researchers, one engineer, one technical and scientific assistant and 3 to 4 PhD and post-doctoral students) focuses its research on the bioavailability of contaminants in urban water environment and their bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms.
Your goal will be to improve the understanding of the factors that control the bioavailability of contaminants in the urban environment, to disseminate the knowledge into the academic sphere and to transfer the final products of your research to water quality management stakeholders.
In close collaboration with the biologists in the BELCA Research Program, your tasks will include:
- Developing research to understand the controlling factors and the mechanisms that influence the bioavailability of contaminants in urban water column, to propose modelling approaches and to validate them with in situ observations. An important task will be the definition, the organisation and the management of field observations of contaminant bioavailability.
- Developing collaborations with national and international partners through the development of and the participation in research projects
- Disseminating results and tools produced by the team, through scientific and technical publications, through involvement in training (initial or ongoing) and coaching, and transfer activities with water management stakeholders
Background needed
You have a PhD in environmental chemistry or ecotoxicology, you have in-depth knowledge on the bioavailability of chemicals in the environment (preferentially in aquatic environment) and you know the main models to account for bioavailability. You are willing to extend your skills to a wider range of chemical substances to work on processes that control their bioavailability. To develop your research, you are willing to work closely with biologists. An experience in research on bioaccumulation processes and toxico-kinetic modelling will be appreciated.
You know the basics of analytical techniques for contaminants in environmental matrixes, you are experienced in modelling and statistics software, and you are able to develop scientific approaches in ecotoxicology. A post-doctoral fellowship in a recognized team in ecotoxicology would be appreciated.
You are able to supervise PhD students. You have an ability in and taste for team work, in particular in a highly multidisciplinary context. You are able to communicate your knowledge to a specialist or non-specialist audience.
You have already worked with different teams in the context of research projects. You master the English scientific language, in writing and speaking. You are fluent in French or you are ready to learn enough French to work there within a few months.
