Description of the position:
The Helmholtz Interdisciplinary Graduate School for Environmental Research (HIGRADE) invites applicants for 18 doctoral scholarships.
HIGRADE is a graduate school for doctoral candidates at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ together with its partner universities: Universität Leipzig, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Technische Universität Dresden, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and Universität Kassel. It provides a structured qualification as supplement to the individual research work by enhancing interdisciplinary research of the candidates. HIGRADE is fostered by the Helmholtz Initiative and Networking Fund.
HIGRADE consists of a three-year research project (theory and/or experiment based) combined with a graduate course curriculum leading to a dissertation. Seminars and courses are conducted in English; German language courses are offered to international students. A superior Master’s degree or equivalent is required for admission. Topics are offered in the following research fields: Environmental
Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functions, Environmental Microbiology/Technology, Management of Georesources, Environmental Modelling and Informatics, Environmental Health Research, Society and Environment, Water Resources and Aquatic Ecosystems. Each doctoral candidate will have supervisors both at the partner university and at the UFZ. Central workplace is at the cooperating university.
