One of the most comprehensive in the world, the assessment of threatened habitat types in Finland is now available also in English. The Red List of all of Finland’s terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems was first published in Finnish in December 2018. The methodology applied in Finland – the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Categories and Criteria – is new but gradually becoming the common standard for assessing the threat status of ecosystems and habitats.
To pave the way for the further expansion of RLEs, Finland now provides a set of assessment examples in addition to the RLE results. Sharing concrete assessment examples in English enhances the harmonization of RLEs across the countries.
