METIER - METhods of Interdisciplinary Environmental Research - is a Marie Curie Series of Events offered by PEER and funded by the European Community.

Overview

METIER Graduate Training Course

To solve environmental problems is challenging: It requires both profound disciplinary knowledge and interdisciplinary skills. While disciplinary knowledge is usually trained lecture-based, interdisciplinary skills are trained on the job, e.g. in interdisciplinary research projects. What is globally missing so far is a systematic (especially graduate) curriculum for interdisciplinary environmental research.

Target / Objective

The Marie Curie Series of Events METIER consists of seven graduate training courses and one final conference addressing cutting-edge methods of interdisciplinary environmental research needed for supporting environmental management:

  • Remote sensing /collection of environmental data,
  • Information management,
  • Geo-visualization,
  • Environmental modelling,
  • Environmental scenario analysis.

Structure

METIER is a coherent series of seven graduate training courses and one final conference on cutting-edge methods of interdisciplinary environmental research.

The training courses

All training courses have a similar structure. They last 5-10 days in lecture-based methodological skills with project-based interdisciplinary understanding (mixture of lectures, talks, discussions, and practical training), and bring together early stage researchers with renowened lecturers from PEER, Europe and beyond.

For more information look at >> METIER Graduate Training Courses. There you can also find the presentation material of each course.

The final conference

The final conference aims at giving an overview over recent developments in methods of interdisciplinary environmental research, demonstrating the application of these methods by presenting projects of selected course participants, and allowing exchange with practitioners and policy-makers about their demands.
