Competence Centre “Isotopes in Environmental and Biosciences”

Short description:

The Competence Centre “Isotopes in Environmental and Biosciences” offers a broad spectrum of analytics, excellent instrumentation and expert knowledge for many applications of modern isotope techniques in today’s environmental research.

Major research issues/sites:

  • Analysis of terrestrial biogeochemical cycles using stable isotopes
  • "Environmental Forensic" for analysing sources, transport and sinks of (anthropogenic) contaminants
  • Characterisation of the water cycle

Short technical description:

Laboratory for Stable Isotopes Leipzig (LSI)

  • 2 GC/C IRMS for 13C and 15N (MAT 252)
  • 2 GC/C/Pyr IRMS for 13C, 15N and HD (MAT 253)
  • EA and HTP interface for solid samples connected via ConFlo III to MAT 253
  • LC-Isolink IRMS (delta plus XP) for development of HPLC applications
  • 2 GC-MSD for testing of the samples before starting the isotope measurements
  • GC-FID for measurement of degradiation curves without isotope measurements
  • Gas-Analyzer for high enriched samples
  • furthermore for development of 37Cl method

Laboratory for Stable Isotopes Halle (LSI Halle)
